The Application for Service explains what SGCPC needs to open a new electricity account or connect new service to a property.

To open an electricity account

  • Complete the SGCPC Contract for Supply, Customer Information Form, and Credit Card Authorization Form.
  • Provide two government-issued photo IDs: your National Insurance card plus a passport, driver’s license, or voter’s card.
  • Non-Bahamian applicants must also provide a valid permanent residence permit or work permit.
  • Pay a security deposit, based on projected or past consumption at the location. It can be paid by debit card, credit card, cheque, or cash (cash payments may be capped).

For new service to a property

  • Proof of ownership or right to use the land, such as conveyance documents, a deed, or probate documents.
  • An Electrical Specification Document prepared by a licensed electrical contractor and approved by the Ministry of Works.
  • After construction, the Ministry of Works approval certificate (and an occupancy certificate for new construction). If the property has solar or batteries, that approval must cover the equipment too.
  • If there is no existing infrastructure, a stamped survey or plot plan showing access to the nearest public road. Boundary pins or a road reservation may also be required.

Capital contributions

If SGCPC must install new infrastructure to reach your property, you pay a capital contribution in full before work begins. Apply early so you know the cost when budgeting your build. Equipment installed up to and including the meter stays SGCPC property. Pay only at an SGCPC cashiering center or by wire transfer; employees cannot accept payments.
