We have received and finally started to install the new bi-directional meters. These will ultimately be on all customers’ homes and businesses, but for now we are installing them on homes that have solar-energy systems installed.

The new meters will allow us to accurately track the energy used by each customer and also the energy exported back to the grid.

We submitted our Renewable Energy Plan (REP) to the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) several months ago. Once URCA approves our submittal, there will be a public meeting and then the REP will become official. The REP sets out the rate we will pay for energy exported to the grid. Until that plan is approved by URCA, there will be no payments for exported energy.

The REP does not change the law of the land. All renewable energy systems are required to have written approval from us, from Ministry of Works, and from Town Council. Please take a look at our website for more information. Once the REP is approved, all customers with solar energy installed on their property will have to go through this process.

Please attend the public meeting with URCA. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page and also the URCA website for details on date, time, and place.

Thank you for helping us make and keep your electricity supply the most reliable in the Bahamas.
